Meet the Team
Dr Ashley Dempster has been a vet in the local area since 2014. She started the Local Vet with the idea to provide a place the community can come to, where their animals feel comfortable and they feel welcome. She will always strive to provide the best possible solution for all and any issues your pet may have. All while trying to limit any stress on your fur kids.
She has a passion for complex medical cases and loves working with clients to find the best management for tricky skin, digestive and behavioural issues.
With a firm belief in work-life balance; outside of work she can be found riding her horses in the local forests, at the beach or supporting local riding clubs.
Lizzie grew up in Riverhead and has watched the area grow into the vibrant community it is today. She is an experienced vet nurse and has a deep sense of responsibility to care for your fur animals as if they were her own. Her fur kids, Bailey, Berry, Pteri, Minnie and Ace all have very unique and individual personalities so she appreciates that your fur kids are all different and loves them for it.
There is no one better to look after your pets with kindness and understanding when they have to come visit or stay.
We will always take a holistic approach to treating your pet. We believe there is no 'one-size-fits-all' and every animal requires a different approach. Lifestyle, breed, and the personalities of our fur kids are all so unique, and so choosing a diet, health plan and treatment plan should reflect this.

Our mission
Your fur babies are our fur babies. The concept of 'the Local Vet' was developed from the desire to provide a vet clinic that the furry members of your family can feel safe and confident in. We aim to be able to treat pets without them knowing they are being treated. We empathise that no one likes needles, including our pets, so aim to ensure that the overall experience is positive; even with the occasional needle, thermometer or pill.
If your fur baby has to stay with us for any length of time, we put a large focus on a high level of veterinary treatment combined with emotional support and home comforts.
